Here are the things I have recently watched on TV:
- The Buffalo Sabres winning. And winning. And winning. And losing. And winning.
- The Mighty Ducks winning
- The Edmonton Oilers Winning
- (I skipped the New Jersey/Carolina series…My team was playing at the same time)
- The Red Sox (when not rained out)
- Lady and the Tramp
- Beauty and the Beast
- Sagwa
- Bob the Builder
- Blue’s Clues
- March of the Penguins
Do you see a pattern here? Sports and kid shows (the Penguins were for the kids, but now I have to explain why seals eat Penguins. Lovely)
I read about American Idol. I have NEVER seen it. I read about Lost, again, I have never seen it.
But damn, I know my Disney movies!
I know many people TIVO stuff (hey, look! I made a verb from a noun!), but even if I had the will to spend $10 bucks more a month, would I really watch it? I wonder. How do you all have TIME to watch TIVO? Really?
Here’s a quick breakdown of my day:
Have small child(ren) attack our bed. Turn on TV, snooze for 60 minutes while PBS educates them (don’t even start with me, YOU get up with them at 6 am if you don’t like TV as a babysitter). Then, get up, shower, get girls dressed, get me dressed not always in that order. Solve crisis du jour (today was Soleil’s jammies fell off when she went to the bathroom, 30 minute scream fest), eat, get everybody in car. Drive to daycare. Drop off, hope Luna doesn’t scream. Work. Enjoy the quiet. Get back to daycare, get girls, get home, Dr. Jay cooks, I play, we eat, I clean, Get ready for bed. 1 hour of getting girls to bed (or longer) and by 9-10, we are done. Then we want to sleep.
I assume some of you (parents) have kids that sleep. Really. I don’t, so TV is what I can watch when I can watch it.
Sigh…
I suspect Johnny will be shaking his head and saying something about crime, but I always thought we would get some semblance of sleep. We still have nights when Soleil is up until 11. She’s in her room, but we can’t force her to sleep….
Have I mentioned it’s still raining? Cities northeast of us are floating away

OK, well, I have TIVO, and it’s great for recording kid’s shows. Seriously. That is what I do the most with it..although it’s nice because I have his favorites without spending the money on DVDs. There are many programs you can find on there that will “search” for movies/shows. That’s pretty cool. Disney movies for free!
And it’s good for the occasional show that we can’t watch or need to pause. In fact, the pause feature is the best..(because there are always interruptions)
It’s worth the money! Really. And I’m not a big TV person.
You do the crime, you……oh, never mind.
We actually went out and rented a second DVR from the evil cable company. Now, the “downstairs” DVR is only mindless kid shows.
The upstairs DVR contains our favorite shows which we watch at our leisure. We do about 1.5 hours a night. TV shows that is.
I don’t have TIVO or a DVR, but, I have been wishing for one - because I do find odd moments to watch TV, and then, there is nothing on tv I want to watch, so,I wish for TIVO. In the meantime, we rent a lot of shows from Netflix, so, we (er, I) can watch them when the urge strikes…
I, too, really wonder how any parent of young children watches TV. We are lucky if we catch The Apprentice each Monday. It’s on at 9 pm but usually DD is still awake. And the only reason we watch that show is we refuse to pay for cable since we can’t enjoy it and DD would watch Treehouse all day long….so the only channel we can get with our rabbit ears is the one that hosts The Apprentice. We do have a DVD player, however, and I’m all about popping in Dora if it means another 30 minutes of sleep, lol.
