Failed Girl 101 September 1, 2006
Posted by spacemom in : Life...otherwise , trackbackWe were driving in to work when I was complaining about not being able to make small talk. I suck at that. Really.
Jay looked at me and said "That’s because you failed Girl 101"
We both laughed, but the phrase stuck with me. And he is right. I did fail Girl 101
Here’s what I can’t do:
- Buy shoes. I hate buying shoes. They all look UGLY to me
- Shop. I hate shopping. I will go once in a while, maybe 3-4 times a year. Other than that, forget it.
- I can’t talk to the person cutting my hair. What am I supposed to say? Really? I have no connection with this person except that I want them to cut my hair the way I ask. I could care less about the weather.
- Purses. I have 2. That’s it. I use one for formal occasions and the other when I wear pants or a skirt that forbid me from sticking my wallet in my back pocket.
- I really could care less who Jennifer Anistin is sleeping with these days. I never read gossip magazines unless I getting my hair cut.
- makeup. Oh Lordy. I have eye shadow and mascara. I am allergic to make lip sticks. I occasionally will wear foundation. Most of the time, I go au natural.
- cook. I can bake and lately I can make a mean spaghetti. Have I mentioned that I once dislocated my shoulder stirring spaghetti? Really. It was very sad.
- huggy kiss kiss stuff. I am so not a touchy feely person. Sometimes Soleil will come up and kiss me and I want to run away. I am so not into that.
- clothes. Man, I would LIVE in jeans and a t-shirt if I didn’t look so, well, trashy. I have started to buy more fitted blouses and nice pants, but I would prefer jeans any day.
So there you have it. I, Spacemom, failed being a girly-girl.
Oh well.
Oh and to clinch it, I was psyched to see that our town is teamed up with the rich town next door for ice hockey! They have a rink and I am so excited at the concept of the girls learning how to play hockey…

Ah, I’m a fellow Girl 101 flunky here! No wonder we get along so well.
Wait! I’ve spent time with you and I thought the small talk was just fine. What do I know?
I flunked G101 also! Woohoo! I am not alone!
Umm…hello? Two (practical) strangers meeting at a coffee shop only to gab for how long? An hour? I think that takes a pretty high falutin degree in Girly 101. Don’t be so hard on yourself, I love talking to you!
Add me to the failed Girl101 group…well, other than shoes, I love shoes!! I always joke with DH though that if Emma is a real girly girl, she’s in trouble in this family. Here’s how pathetic I am, tomorrow I’m going to the bookstore to see if I can find a book on how to do hair since I’ve always had short hair and have no idea what to do with Emma’s hair - and I don’t mean complicated hairdoes, I mean how do you get pigtails even kind of hairdoes!lol
