Typepad and computers are conspiring! February 23, 2007

Is it just me? Or can nobody leave comments? I’ve been TRYING to comment on blogs that I love and typepad keeps timing out. And then I wrote a really nice post and Zoom, the Internet gods ATE IT. I hope you liked it! It would have been better with ketchup!

Sigh, So remember this post? Yeah, well, I think my freak out is starting to go down. Jay and I had a discussion, and he even gave me a paper bag to hyperventilate into, and we decided to try our town’s after school program.
Then we also discussed our "real" plan for the future. We may just get another parking pass and shift schedules. If he goes to work early, I can stay with the kids and then once they are on the bus, I’ll drive in. Then he comes home early to pick them up from the bus and I drive home in time for dinner.

We’ll see how this plays out. It might work well, it might not. We will have to see.

So, seriously, nobody has suggestions for sewing? Seriously? Dudes, you disappoint me. Drop me an email if you don’t want to comment. I won’t tell!

Ahh, TypePad. Not my favorite software / site. I decided on WordPress a while ago, especially since I can host that on my own server and not only at a hosting site. This means if things don’t work it’s my fault. And I can fix them. I like blogging better that way :-)
(of course the question is - will TypePad accept this comment…)

Given my recent frustrations with my babysitter, I say “after-school, all the way!”…but only until the weather is bad, when I say “whew, thank god we have an in-home sitter”. I offer that only to say that no matter which decision you made/make, there will be days you are happy with it, and days you aren’t - but as long as the former outweigh the latter, you are doing fine. (and I’m sure that both S & L will be happy with either choice!)

D and I split the going to work thing like you are proposing - I leave later and he gets home earlier (most nights). Then again, we don’t work at the same place….but it does help each of us feel a little less frazzled about both child care and work duties. Certainly, the nights we know the other is getting home first for the sitter, the other feels they can actually finish up some work before sprinting out the door.

I knit. I suck at sewing, lol. Sorry no advice about the sewing machine. I already gave my vote for the nanny instead of the after school care thingy. But then I may be over sensitive in these matters because I’m not used to leaving my kids with anyone. I think the altered work hours idea is a brilliant plan. Does this mean you would get to sleep in? lol

Hmmm…sewing machines. I am sewing on my mother’s 1978 Husquavarna. I absolutely love the thing. It is so old and has the most darling 1970’s style cabinet (blech) but he thing runs and runs and hums a sweet tune. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
The cabinet obviously wasn’t built for the tall and sturdy people of Sweden, I have it propped up on tiles to make it taller to save my neck!

However, new Husquarvarnas are second mortgage material. So, if cost is an issue I would look into a solid work house model like a Kenmore or Singer or White with not too many bells and whistles. Go for high quality less dazzle. Like maybe 40 stitches and an auto buttonholer but skip the fancy schmancy 200 computer stitches with quilting and serger qualities built in etc…

Ask about the no-oiling options too. Mine self oils and that is very nice for maintenance.

Be careful it is addictive. If I had more childcare I would be holed up in my cave like sewing room 8 hours a day just creating away.

I have no idea whether this helps at all.

Oh one more thing, go to Joann’s or another sewing store’s machine department and buddy up with the blue haired ladies. They know everything. They are so helpful and would definitely have a free opinion on what is best nowadays for what you want to spend.
