A mom’s guilt July 5, 2007
Posted by spacemom in : Travel, Parenting 101 , add a commentHoo boy!
The girls are working hard in the guilt department.
Soleil burst into tears last night when she realized that Luna and I were leaving tomorrow morning. She wanted Daddy to go. Or maybe she could come too. I explained that no, only Luna and I were going, not Daddy, not Soleil. The sobbing, the horror.
Later, Jay took her aside and explained the things they would do. She still complained that she would not be able to play with Luna over the weekend.
While calming and rocking her, I had horrible guilt. What if something happens on the plane tomorrow? What if something happens in NC? I want to promise her that I will return. I can’t guarentee that. I want Luna to grow up with her sister. What if something terrible happens?
I go through this whenever I go on a trip. I suppose it is better than in the past when I would just go into complete panic attack over getting on a plane, but still…
Doing better July 4, 2007
Posted by spacemom in : Kids , 2 commentsIt was a long and rough night. Around 3:30, Soleil’s fever broke. I ended up convincing her to sleep on her lower bunk. She had a rough time until the fever broke. Then she had a great time talking to mommy. At 4:15, I allowed her to go out to the living room to watch the sunrise. I had to rest on the couch so she wasn’t alone.
So far, she’s had a very good day….
I think it is past…
The yuckies… July 3, 2007
Posted by spacemom in : Kids , 4 commentsI was planning to write a nice post about our day yesterday, but Soleil came down with a fever this afternoon. I took her home, got her to keep some toast down, watched A Bug’s Life and then we got Luna and Daddy. After dinner, her fever spiked to 101.7 (high for her) and she vomited a few minutes ago. Poor kid. She is hardly ever sick. She hasn’t vomited in over a year.
Sigh… So we have a case of the yuckies… Sigh
Summer grillin’– recipe added July 1, 2007
Posted by spacemom in : Life...otherwise , 5 commentsYesterday, I used my sourdough starter to make some awesome breads.
These are grilled Asiago Cheese Rounds. 4" rounds that you bake on the grill. 8 minutes to grill.
Yummy for the summer.
The recipe, From the King Arthur Baking Sheet
Starter: 3/4 cup King Arthur All purpose flour
1/2 cup water
1/8 tsp instant yeast
(I used 1.5 cups of my own sourdough starter instead)
Combine ingrediants and let rest for 4-8 hours or overnight. It is ready when bubbling.
Dough-
All of the starter
3/4c +2Tbsp water
1/2c semolina flour
2 tsp instant yeast
3 Tbsp olive oil
2 1/4 c King Arthur bread flour (or all-purpose)
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2c freshly grated asiago cheese
2Tbsp dried parsley or 1/4 chopped fresh
olive oil for grilling
Combine started, water, yeast semolina and olive oil. Mix until smooth. Add the remaining ingrediants and mix until a dough forms. Knead or put in bread machine on dough setting. Let rise for 45 minutes or until doubled in volume.
Divide into 16 even balls. let rest for 10 minutes and set grill to medium high. (350 on ours)
flatten 8 balls into 4 inche rounds. Brush one side with olive oil. Put on the grill and lower the cover for 2 minutes. Turn the rounds 1/4 way WITHOUT FLIPPING (to get that nice diamond shape of the grill). after 2 more minutes, brush the tops with olive oil and flip. Cover with a tin pan (I used 1 tin for 2 breads). Grill for 3-4 minutes.
Repeat with the other 8 balls.
Eat!
