Acupuncture? October 18, 2007
Posted by spacemom in : Nance , trackbackInternets? I need you! I am in serious need of a relaxing situation.
Have you ever tried acupuncture? Seriously. I am terrified of needles, but I am looking for a way to find some way to get my body to relax.
Thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Yes and yes. Have been thinking it’s time to go back to it, as a matter of fact. Not for relaxation *hah* but for straightening out my cycle. It worked wonders for that before. I’m biased towards Chinese trained acupuncturists based on my own experience with what worked and what didn’t. Or at least find someone who’s been doing it for a long time. My first acu was so, so nice, but she trained here and didn’t get 1/10 the results the second one did.
Hm. Me? I’d do massages and yoga. A one-hour massage will find that spot in the shoulder bone that’s near the spine that always ends up with a huge knot, and get the knot out. A good yoga class does the same for me. The combo is a one-two knockout, IMO.
Which reminds me, I need to find a masseuse and a yoga place…
I’ve done acupuncture for years and one of my good friends is the practitioner. I think the main point here is that the needles used in acupuncture is not even close to those used for drawing blood.
I’m with you on needles. My one experience with Accupuncture was not pleasant. I am just not a good subject for it.
However, accupressure is wonderful. Or if you cannot find a good specialist, try a full body massage. However, not a sport massage. You want something that is for relaxing. Tell the massage therapist when you do your booking and he/she should be able to accommodate you. My newest favorite treat is a facial massage. Not a regular facial, but more than the usual cleansing and skin treatment, it includes a relaxing, stress-reducing, light pressure facial massage that not only leaves you feeling younger, but looking younger as well!! Wonders!! Check with your local beauty treatment center to find out if they offer this.
Good luck!
I’ve been getting acupuncture for about 4 years now. I went from debilitating migraines about every other week to none at all (or one minor one, to be perfectly honest) in the last 4 years.
I went in thinking it’s mumbo-jumbo and am truly a convert. With a /good/ acupuncture specialist you hardly ever even feel the needles (let me tell you - I have needle-phobia and I actually look forward to my appointments; I just close my eyes so I don’t see them).
You should definitely try it (and remember that you need to give it a few sessions…
I love massages, but I can never relax during them because my mind wanders into my to-do list, or if I shaved my legs well enough.
So, I go the masochistic route like shiatsu and a therapy called ART (there are few practitioners in MA, I can give you a couple of names, but if you have physical pain from stress I cannot recommend this enough). The “pain” keeps my mind focused and I usually leave relaxed. Yep, strange.
