Dude. Dude…Duuuuuuude November 6, 2008
Posted by spacemom in : Parenting 101 , 3 commentsIt happened. Yesterday morning. I was dropping Soleil off at school. She is taking a supplemental language class (she got into American Sign Language) and it happened. I said "Hey kiddo, can I have a kiss goodbye?" And she ran over and ducked her head and hugged my legs and ran back to the class.
Um, okay. I’m cool with that. Mom kissing you goodbye is so Kindergarten. I get it. You are embarrassed by mom kissing you.
Last night, she asked me to snuggle her to sleep. As I got in the top bunk and snuggled her, I asked.
"Soleil? Does it bother you that I kiss you goodbye in front of your friends?"
She turned away not to look at me.
"Honey? It’s okay if it does. I just need to know so I won’t do it, okay?"
She turned back. "Mom, it kind of embarrasses me. You know, in front of my friends."
I nodded, "I know. I was figuring that out."
"How did you know?"
"I was 6 once too. Is a hug okay?"
"yeah, a small one."
"Okay, I can do that. But you know, you can get kisses and hugs and snuggles at home, right?"
"That’s okay here. My friends aren’t here"
There you have it. Mom is officially embarrassing Soleil.
(YES! Fist pump in the air)
