Me to Luna "Later you and Luna can go to the playground."
Luna: "MOM! Her name is Soleil. If you named us both Luna, you would get confused!"
Me: "um, right" (didn’t I just show I was confused? by calling your sister by the wrong name?)
Luna in her room screaming. Me in the hallway keeping her from rushing out of her room.
Soleil: (in patronizing voice) "mom, kids are really difficult. I understand"
In baseball, the catcher calls what pitch to throw. He signals to the pitcher by holding his fingers down in his crotch. 1 finger for fastball, 2 for curve, 3 for slider or change up. Middle finger down to hit the batter (not really). In addition, the couches have a complex series of hand and body motions to relay messages out to the players in the field. Some are real, some are fake and the players all need to understand this strange language of baseball signs. Soleil has obviously watched too much baseball.
Soleil: "okay, here’s the thing. At my violin recital, you need to hold your hand up high to tell me that I play the A string. Hold your hand low for the E string."
Me: "honey, I don’t think I supposed to give you signs during your recital. Why don’t you just do your best?"
Soleil: "And if it’s A string with 3 fingers down, You should pat your head. Then for A string with 2 fingers, touch your face…"
Me: interrupting "no. I will never remember all of this! just do your best!"
Ain’t life grand!
It happened. Yesterday morning. I was dropping Soleil off at school. She is taking a supplemental language class (she got into American Sign Language) and it happened. I said "Hey kiddo, can I have a kiss goodbye?" And she ran over and ducked her head and hugged my legs and ran back to the class.
Um, okay. I’m cool with that. Mom kissing you goodbye is so Kindergarten. I get it. You are embarrassed by mom kissing you.
Last night, she asked me to snuggle her to sleep. As I got in the top bunk and snuggled her, I asked.
"Soleil? Does it bother you that I kiss you goodbye in front of your friends?"
She turned away not to look at me.
"Honey? It’s okay if it does. I just need to know so I won’t do it, okay?"
She turned back. "Mom, it kind of embarrasses me. You know, in front of my friends."
I nodded, "I know. I was figuring that out."
"How did you know?"
"I was 6 once too. Is a hug okay?"
"yeah, a small one."
"Okay, I can do that. But you know, you can get kisses and hugs and snuggles at home, right?"
"That’s okay here. My friends aren’t here"
There you have it. Mom is officially embarrassing Soleil.
(YES! Fist pump in the air)
Yeah- Election. Obama did it! So very happy that he won. Both Jay and I watched McCain’s speech. Jay is convinced that McCain threw the election. The man we saw last night was NOT the McCain we’ve been seeing since the convention. He was the true middle McCain. The one who wants to work together, the one who hushed the boos and asked the country to work together.
In Massachusetts, we had three ballot issues, 1) to repeal the state income tax (NO! It went down big time. We will still have taxes)
2) to make possession of pot 1oz or less a civil penalty, not criminal (YES! )
3) to make greyhound racing illegal and close the two greyhound tracks in the state (YES)
To be honest, the one I struggled with the most was the last. Before September, I was so for the dogs. I love greyhounds. I am not sure the dogs are well kept for racing and some of the people who have adopted former racing dogs have seen that these dogs are not very comfortable with people. But once the economy tanked, I would have trouble eliminating 1,000 jobs for the people in the racing industry. These people need to eat and have a home. What is going to happen to these people?
Either way, the die is cast and we will see.
Putting your money in the wrong parking meter. And getting a $20 ticket when you still have 50 minutes on the meter. Bugger
Halloween was fun. I spent most of the night watching "Ghost Hunters live" on SciFi Channel. Very cool, but we crashed around midnight and they still had two hours to go.
The girls only (HA HA HA HA HA) got 6 lbs of candy this year. Last year was 8lbs. However, they donated their full sized candy including Butterfingers to Mom! Thanks Guys! They went with the neighborhood posse. Great, my kids are in a posse now!
All in all, it was a fun holiday with candy, sugar, more candy, etc.
Yesterday, Luna asked for an eye pillow. At yoga (yes, they do yoga at daycare) they get eye pillows. We were at a quilt shop yesterday, so I let her pick out a fat quarter and I made her a vanilla scented eye pillow. Am I a cool mom? Or a push over?
A few things for November, 1) Please vote today. I don’t care if you vote for Nader/Gonzales, just VOTE. 2) This is the write a novel month. I picked my book back up. I was surprised to see I have 13,000 words already. I will try to make the 50,000 goal by November 30. Please support me in my quest, which is hard with work and girls and meetings and everything else. 3) I joined facebook last night under my real name! If you happened to get a friend request from a Nancy you aren’t sure about, email me at my spacemom address and I’ll let you know if that was me. 4) A friend has gotten me into quilting. OMG, this is BAD… Very Bad.
Have a great day!
