Happy Passover! April 12, 2006
Posted by spacemom in : Food and Drink , 3 commentsAt sunset today, we begin the Pesach season! We are going to Cleveland this year (how is this year different from other years? it ISN’T) and we leave tomorrow!
I am thrilled to see the girls get excited over Passover. It is a fun holiday. There has been much debate over the Kosher laws lately. Although I tend to think this is normal. We believe rice is kosher during Passover.
That’s our rule and we are sticking to it! Too much Matzoh will kill anyone’s intestines!
So I will be checking in from my In-law’s house and trying to relax this weekend starting tomorrow, once we are off the plane!
Happy Passover to those who celebrate!
Now- where was that chocolate covered matzoh brittle recipe….
Help! Cooks please help me! January 25, 2006
Posted by spacemom in : Food and Drink , 4 commentsI need help. I’ve emailed a few friends and I want some advice. I am not a good cook. However, I am slowly learning. We have a longer commute home since we switched daycares. We need to eat rice with dinner when Dr. Jay has a flare up, so we plan our meals around that. However, cooking rice is a royal time sink. So I am considering a rice cooker. I have NEVER had one and the only ones I have seen I have bad memories of. I was a resident assitant and three of the suites on my floor had rice cookers. We also had roaches. You can see where this is going. Everytime we had a safety inspection, I would see little baby roaches around the rice cookers. YUCK!
So, I am fighting that stigma of rice cookers. I want one that I can program so the rice doesn’t cook the moment I leave the house. I want one that can do brown rice because we eat that more than white rice. I am looking at this one. What do you think? Any advice? Suggestions???
Thanks folks!
Regurgitate January 17, 2006
Posted by spacemom in : Food and Drink , add a commentWhy are there no references to the word "regurgitate" in parenting books? As in "when your child is 3, they will experiment with food and regurgitate their milk into their yogurt container so to make yogurt from milk".
Why? Why don’t parenting books prepare us for this?
Any why do they neglect the cure all for constipation. CL, please listen closely. Put constipated child in bat tub. Add EVERY TOY for the tub you can imagine, including ones so they can drink the water. For extra assurances of defecation, add a sibling to the tub. Let the child splash until the older sibling screams "SHE’S POOPING IN THE TUB!!!!" and climbing out the tub in terror.
Yes, I need to write a parenting book. After I have a drink. I really really large drink…Pass me the Baily’s…
Here Pod! Here Pod! December 30, 2005
Posted by spacemom in : Food and Drink , 3 commentsGuess what? After 2 hours of web research and 1 hour of store research, I am getting a single serve coffee machine for work! Yippie!
This is the Krups 1010. You put in a pod of coffee, put in water, and sizzle, snork and poof, you get a cuppa Joe! Just what I need. I usually spend about $3.50 for a mocha in the afternoon at work. A cup will cost about 40ยข per cup. Much better. Now I won’t be making mochas, but I can have some very nice coffee. YUMMY!
Dr. Jay was planning on buying this, but wanted my approval since he knows I am the coffee freak!
I can’t wait! We have to buy it tomorrow. Our 20% off coupon expires in 2006. Can you believe I am excited over coffee? It must be the geek genes and programmer stuff going off!
Rolling, rolling, rolling December 18, 2005
Posted by spacemom in : Food and Drink , 3 commentsI spent yesterday rolling. Rolling cookies that is! I made Edna Koenig’s springerlie recipe for my family. These are amazing little pillow like cookies that are flavored with anise. I will post a photo later. They are great, but you have to make the dough (includes beating the eggs for 25 minutes- Thank you Kitchen-Aide) and chill it, then roll with a regular rolling pin, then use a special springerlie rolling pin to add the pictures, the cut and let dry for 18 hours before you bake them. Soleil helped me roll the pictures on and we baked them today! YUMMMY! Now we have to wait until Saturday to eat them with my family for Christmas. I added a photo showing the springerlie pin and two of the cookies so you can see how the pictures are rolled on!
